My main research interests lie in reconstructing, understanding and modelling the Earths past climate and environment in order to evaluate and improve our ability to forecast the future. This ranges from decadal to glacial-interglacial timescales, and from local site to regional continental and global scales.
The main areas of my current research include:
- Extraterrestrial forcing of the Earths climate & the role of the latitudinal insolation/temperature gradient
- Evaluation of climate models through data-model comparisons
- Large-scale Holocene palaeoclimate and vegetation reconstruction using pollen data
- The palaeoenvironmental history of the Mediterranean and Northern England
